Space Situational Awareness (SSA)

Introduction

Space Situational Awareness (SSA) is the process of tracking and assessing the risks associated with objects in space, such as satellites and space debris. The goal of SSA is to prevent collisions, maintain satellite operations, and forecast potential risks. Tracking space objects is a crucial part of SSA, and it involves generating Two-Line Elements (TLE), which provide data on the position and motion of objects in space. This information is used for calculations and planning in satellite maintenance and protection. Tracking methods include using telescopic cameras or radar systems to monitor and receive signals from space objects. The acquired data is then used in the Orbit Determination process to determine the position and motion of the objects, resulting in the generation of TLE data.
